The Residential School for the Visually Impaired children at Bangalore – The Residential School was established in 1999. Formal Education in the Medium of English under the State syllabus is provided from standard 1 to Standard 7.
The Residential Integrated High School at Bangalore – The Residential INtegrated High School was started in 2006. The school provides education from Standard 8 to Standard 10th through English medium under State Syllabus to the totally Visually Impaired Children, low vision (Partially blind children) and children with sight belonging to the “Below the Poverty Line” families.
In addition, all children are provided instructions and training in Classical Karnatic Music, Classical dance, Folklore arts so that they have expertise in one of the fine arts by the time they complete their 10th standard.
All the children and adults are provided training in sports and games. As the result, they have won prizes and awards in literary, cultural and sports competitions at Local, State and National Level.
The Computer Training Center for the blind – The Association is running a computer training center for the blind in Bangalore speaking software is installed for the purpose of imparting computer education for the blind. In addition, communication skills in Kannada and English and one other European Languages is imparted.
Braille Embossing Unit – The Association is also operating a Braille Embossing Unit to print Braille reading materials through computerized Braille Embossers. The Unit welcomes orders for Braille printing in Kannada & English.
Braille Library and Information Center in Bangalore – The Association is planning to revive the Braille Library & Information centers, the only one of the its kind in Karnataka. The project plans to provide reading room facility referral through internet literary & cultural programs at Weekend providing the disability related information in Ink Print and Braille CDs & through website is also under plan. The above services are open to anyone requiring the help from anywhere in Karnataka and outside.
The KWAB Vijayapura Unit is located in Devanahalli Taluk in Bangalore Rural district. It is the 1st ever project providing services & support covering all aspects of development & all categories of disabled in rural area in Karnataka. – The Unit is extending a series of services & support in the whole of Devanahalli Taluk, a few villages in the adjoining Taluks of Hosakote Bangalore Rural District and Siddlaghatta of Chikkaballapura District. The unit is operating a Residential Integrated Education Project for the visually impaired children. It is providing computer training to the Visually Impaired persons & the computer training Center is being planned to be expanded to provide training to all categories of disabled.
The KWAB Navachetana Nagamanagala Unit – The Navachetana Nagamangala unit is operating a Residential School for hearing and speech Impaired children in Nagamangala, Mandya District. The unit also operates two training centers in tailoring and dress making one each in Bellur & Nagamangala. Both the above rural units extend a wide variety of services, for the disabled and the rural community like health services disability diagnosis, medical intervention, preparation of disabled children for integrated education providing for securing vocational training & support for entrepreneurship & community awareness creation about disability, prevention & cure and disability Rehabilitation.
Activities for personality development – The Association is also engage in promoting the personality Development of the disabled and in particular that f the blind through regular group discussions, cultural meets, sports meets, conferences, observances and poets meets.
Please Note: All the above services are provided free of charge to the beneficiaries.
Our Immediate Plans
The Association is planning to setup a high profile training project in English and Kannada communications, career guidance & Job Placement Projects.
The Association is eager to setup a training & Rehabilitation Center to promote economic Rehabilitation of about 150 disabled women in the Vijayapura Unit. Likewise the Association plans to establish a center for entrepreneurship training and entrepreneurship promotion. KWAB intends to establish a tailoring and dress making training cum production unit for the economic Rehabilitation of 45 to 60 disabled women under the Nagamangala unit & a dairy training center is another activity planned to be established in Nalligare village Nagamangala taluk.
Setting up of women forum for the Visually Impaired women, Youth forum for the Visually Impaired and proficiency forum for the visually impaired all over Karnataka are also under plan.
Sources of Resources
The Association is entirely dependent on public contributions for operating the existing projects for expanding them and also for initiating new ones.
The association incurs Rs. 9 to 10 lakhs (including the value of support received in kind) in a month for the present activites.
The association is looking forward to secure a piece of land in Bangalore where disability friendly premises can be developed for promoting education skills development and social integration of all categories of disabled.
The association needs to Rs 30 to 35 lakhs to complete the renovation and building expansion program undertaken in Bangalore.

The association can also receive foreign Aid under the FCRA.
