Future Projects

The Community Based Rehabilitation Project for the Disabled (CBRPD) was established in Vijayapura, Devanahalli Taluk Bengaluru Rural District in 1985.  The CBRPD Vijayapura is the first CBRPD project of the Karnataka Welfare Association for the Blind.  The objective of the Community Based Rehabilitation Project  for the Disables is to provide interventional and rehabilitation services to the different categories of the differently abled persons in the community set up utilizing the community resources and to prepare the community itself to provide rehabilitation services and promote the rehabilitation of the different categories of the differently abled persons – the Visually Impaired (VI), the Hearing and Speech Impaired (HSI), the Mentally Retarded (MR) and Orthopedically Disabled (OPD).  The CBRPD in Vijayapura extended its services gradually from Vijayapura and other hoblies in  Devanahalli Taluk.  Intervention for the health services identification of disabled, education preparatory, formal education through institutions for the non-disabled persons through the integrated approach, occasional training and exposure, economic rehabilitation through self and group employment and through open employment, social integration at all stages and in all aspects of livelihood.

A few statistics of services extended between 1985 and 2000 hold testimony to the high achievements and accomplishments of the community-based rehabilitation project for the disabled.

The units of CBRPD were established in Madya, covering Mandya town and adjoining villages.  Nagamangala covering entire Nagamangala Taluk of Mandya district and Bellary covering Bellary Town and adjoining villages.  As such thousands of the differently abled persons young and old have been benefitted through the CBRPD units.

The KWAB Vijayapura CBR unit

Due to severe fund constraints the KWAB has restricted its CBR activities to the KWAB Vijayapura CBR unit in Devanahalli Taluk of Bangalore Rural District with only a service of a few staff the wick of CBRPD is kept burning.  With improvement in fund situation CBRPD the first of its kind in Karnataka will play a very vital role in the total rehabilitation of particularly the rural disabled.
